Saucy sensation

September 2018

Creating something special in a crowded food industry marketplace is not an easy task. But local entrepreneurs Al Bourbouhakis and Nancy Shaw of Heartbeat Hot Sauce seem to have found the recipe for success.
Heartbeat is available in over 250 locations in Canada and the U.S., all selling their special brand of hand crafted locally produced sauces.
“Our growth has been phenomenal; we’re now available in 21 Metro locations along with the local and Manitoba Safeway locations, Sobey’s grocery stores in Southern Ontario and over 40 local retailers”, says Bourbouhakis. Nancy his partner and wife-to-be was born in Thunder Bay and Al was born in Vancouver, lived in Montreal and moved to our city in 2008 and has worked in the kitchens of several local restaurants, including the Tomlin where he held the position of Sous Chef.
One recent milestone moment for this remarkable start-up came this summer on the series HOT ONES on the ‘First We Feast You Tube Channel’ where the hot sauce was featured and enjoyed by celebrities like Today Show weatherman Al Roker and actors Michael Cera and Jeff Goldblum. The series has millions of views and offers big exposure for online ordering.
