Creating the perfect dinner
One of the most popular programs on the Food Network is Dinner Party Wars. A delicious hour of wining, dining and undermining as three couples go head to head in a ruthless, no-holds barred dinner party competition. Hidden cameras capture every hilarious detail as recipes crash, testy guests come to blows, and taste buds are either tickled or tortured.
The program is filmed in Toronto and co-hosted by Chef Corbin Tomaszeski and style and etiquette guru Anthea Turner.
As holiday entertaining season begins, we asked Chef Corbin to share his thoughts and tips on holding the perfect party.
What is the top mistake people make when holding a dinner party?
CT: Lack of preparation. You must prep, prep, prep! Do almost everything ahead of time so you aren’t cooking while your guests are visiting. This allows you to actually enjoy your time with them. Present menu items you’re familiar with. You should have confidence and knowledge in what you’re preparing so you can present it in a great way. And don’t take on too much – keep things simple. If you’re unable to complete the food or present it with quality, it will sacrifice the party experience with your guests.
What are some tips for throwing the perfect Christmas dinner party?
CT: Keep to the classics. Food should create memories and remind people of their past Christmases. Select food choices that reflect Christmas tradition and have timeless flavors and warmth.
Be sure to create an atmosphere that reflects the season. Have the fire going and music playing to create a warm jolly party.
Christmas is about family and bringing people together – make sure to spend lots of time with your guests and keep the energy going.
What do you like best about doing your TV show Dinner Party Wars?
CT: I like meeting fun and interesting people. Working with Anthea is a riot, we have so much fun together both on and off camera. I also love laughing along with the people on the show, but also the crew, who over the past three seasons have been unbelievable to work with.
Any last words?
CT: Enjoy your holiday entertaining everyone!
