Ice, ice baby

March 2025

After spending the last three months away, I must admit that my body is going through a bit of an adjustment. Although most of our time was spent in the heat, there were locales that weren’t exactly warm as expected. Florida had only one week in the month of January where temperatures were at or above normal. That was the week we were leaving of course. And Vancouver was having an equally bizarre winter, and yes it was rainy and cold the whole time we were there as well.

Then we arrive home, and although it is always good to be here, the weather has been less than optimal. I had to dig out the parka, gloves (already lost one of a pair), hat and boots. If you see a lady walking around with mismatched gloves that would be me. I recall with some fondness the strings that hung from our sleeves when we were children.

I understand they are now a choking hazard. Thus, I have a basket full of mismatched hand wear. Why I keep them is beyond me. I hope the lost glove will miraculously find its way home. Absolutely delusional I know.

I put the rubber car mats in so that my carpets don’t get ruined by the salt and had to shovel the driveway. Although not my usual job, donned with hat, hood and parka, I felt truly isolated and the quiet was nice. Not so nice I want to do it regularly though!
Interestingly my not-so-smart watch is having difficulty as well. While it usually monitors my lack of activity to the second, the last few days it has rewarded me for finishing my rings.

How this happened I just don’t know. I assume I did this by walking down two flights of stairs and putting laundry on. I don’t think it’s quite right, but I like this version much better.

I can’t slather enough cream on my skin to get rid of the dryness. After days in the sun, it too is in shock with the cold and darkness associated with wearing pants. Even on the coldest day down south I didn’t wear long pants. Not because I didn’t need to but because I forgot to pack them and really, I always thought the cold would pass in short order. To say that most of the residents looked at me oddly would be an understatement until, of course, they acknowledged that I was from the cold north.

We were lucky to miss the November/ December freeze and snow. Somehow my body hasn’t acknowledged this and is still in shock after being on home soil for about a month. None the less I have gotten back in the pool and am more than ready for winter to give up and let spring move in. Maybe in May…fingers crossed. Happy spring everyone.
